چکیده

Motivated by the observation that applied electric !elds modulate hippocampal seizures, and that seizures may be asynchronous, we modeled synaptically coupled two-compartment hippocampal pyramidal neurons embedded within an electrically resistive lattice in order to examine network synchronization properties under the in4uence of externally applied electric !elds. Excitatory electric !elds were shown to synchronize or desynchronize the network depending on the natural frequency mismatch between the neurons. Such frequency mismatch was found to decrease as a function of increasing electric !eld amplitude. These !ndings provide testable hypotheses for future seizure control experiments. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Electric Differential for an Electric Vehicle with Four Independent Driven Motors and Four Wheels Steering Ability Using Improved Fictitious Master Synchronization Strategy

Using an Electric Differential (ED) in electric vehicle has many advantages such as flexibility and direct torque control of the wheels during cornering and risky maneuvers. Despite its reported successes and advantages, the ED has several problems limits its applicability, for instance, an increment of control loops and an increase of computational effort. In this paper, an electric differenti...

Sensitivity of neurons to weak electric fields.

Weak electric fields modulate neuronal activity, and knowledge of the interaction threshold is important in the understanding of neuronal synchronization, in neural prosthetic design, and in the public health assessment of environmental extremely low frequency fields. Previous experimental measurements have placed the threshold between 1 and 5 mV/mm, although theory predicts that elongated neur...

Synchronization for Complex Dynamic Networks with State and Coupling Time-Delays

This paper is concerned with the problem of synchronization for complex dynamic networks with state and coupling time-delays. Therefore, larger class and more complicated complex dynamic networks can be considered for the synchronization problem. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a delay-independent criterion is obtained and formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs)...

Synchronization analysis of complex dynamical networks with hybrid coupling with application to Chua’s circuit

Complex dynamic networks have been considered by researchers for their applications in modeling and analyzing many engineering issues. These networks are composed of interconnected nodes and exhibit complex behaviors that are resulted from interactions between these nodes. Synchronization, which is the concept of coordinated behavior between nodes, is the most interested behavior in these netwo...

Field effects and ictal synchronization: insights from in homine observations

It has been well established in animal models that electrical fields generated during inter-ictal and ictal discharges are strong enough in intensity to influence action potential firing threshold and synchronization. We discuss recently published data from microelectrode array recordings of human neocortical seizures and speculate about the possible role of field effects in neuronal synchroniz...
